Bridge is Kinnear’s happy hunting ground
Newcastle United boss Joe Kinnear says that Stamford Bridge is one of his favourite places to go as a manager and player.

Kinnear enjoyed several victories at the home of Chelsea when he was in charge of Wimbledon and as a player with Tottenham Hotspur.

Now the Magpies’ interim leader is confident his side can spring a surprise against the Premier League table-toppers on Saturday.

“I won 4-2 there with Wimbledon,” he told the Evening Chronicle. “In fact, I’ve won there quite a few times - it’s quite a good place for me.”

And Kinnear thinks his team, who lie in 17th spot, will be fully motivated for the fixture

He said: “Unless I’ve got it badly wrong, I’d assume you wouldn’t have to get your team up to play at Chelsea. I think everybody will be up for that match, no disrespect to Wigan.”

If Chelsea’s encounters with other teams form the north-east this season are anything to go by, Newcastle could be in for a long afternoon - both Middlesbrough and Sunderland were thrashed 5-0 by the Blues.
