Hull shock Arsenal
Premiership newcomers, Hull, produced one of the biggest upsets in Premier League history by defeating Arsenal 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
The loss was a bitter disappointment for Arsene Wenger, who watched his side crash to their second defeat at home in 60 matches on the day of his 12 year anniversary as Arsenal manager.
The loss saw Arsenal tumble from first to fourth place in the league table, while Hull rocketed to sixth position in Premiership.
Arsenal dominated the first half of the match, scoring through a deflection off a defender 5 minutes into the second half. However, a moment of Brazilian magic from Geovanni saw Hull draw level, before Daniel Cousin headed his club to victory from close range.
“I’d like to think wins like this could be a regular occurrence,” Hull manager Phil Brown told the Times after the match. “But a lot of hard work has gone into today.”
“We’ve got a belief that we can do something this year. Proving people wrong is always a motivation for me, or for any of the players having come from the second division and played football in the lower divisions mostly.”
