Stubborn Stoke could frustrate Chelsea
Chelsea are preparing themselves for a tough trip to the Britannia Stadium on Saturday (September 27th) against a Stoke City side which held Liverpool to a 1-1 draw last weekend.
Michael Essien, Deco and Ricardo Carvalho are all out injured for the Blues and Chelsea manager Luis Felipe Scolari will have to assess whether to striker Didier Drogba is capable of starting the match - the Ivorian has not played 90 minutes since returning from a knee injury.
Ahead of the game, Andy Griffin, Stoke City captain, underlined his team’s determination to stay in the top flight.
He said: “We’re in this division through sheer hard work and effort. We deserve to be here and we don’t want to be here for the one season.”
Stoke’s last league win over Chelsea dates back to 1975 - a 3-0 win in a season which saw the west London club relegated to the old second division.
