Wales to field depleted attack
Wales have been hit by a number of injuries to frontmen ahead of their opening World Cup qualifiers at home to Azerbaijan and away to Russia.

John Toshack’s men are looking to get their campaign off to a winning start but face being without Craig Bellamy, Freddy Eastwood and Rob Earnshaw for Saturday’s (September 6th) game against Azerbaijan.

Nottingham Forest’s Earnshaw is expected back for the Russia game in mid-week after pulling a hamstring in his side’s 5-1 win over Wolves at the weekend, but Bellamy - with a hamstring problem of his own - and Eastwood - nursing a groin strain - will play no part in either fixture.

“There is no way that Craig is fit for international football and I’ve told him and John Toshack exactly that,” stressed Bellamy’s West Ham United boss Alan Curbishley, speaking to the BBC.

Manchester City youngster Ched Evans is ready to step into the breach, having scored on debut for his country in a 1-0 win over Iceland in May.
