Fulham’s AJ to miss Arsenal game
Fulham’s £10 million signing Andrew Johnson is to miss his side’s game with Arsenal on Saturday (August 23rd), after boss Roy Hodgson announced he was refused to risk the injury-prone striker.
Johnson moved from Everton to Craven Cottage earlier in the month despite still being treated for a thigh strain.
And his manager Hodgson has said it would be silly to risk ‘AJ’ against the Gunners, who won their opening game 1-0 against West Brom last week.
Hodgson, who is hoping his side can bounce back from a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Premier League new boys Hull City, commented: “Andy Johnson’s injury has improved immensely and he’s quite close to full fitness. Clinically he’s very close.
“I’m very concerned that the season has just begun and there are 38 matches to be played. It’s important for me to have Andy up, running and fit for most of those matches.”
US international Clint Dempsey could be paired with another summer signing, Bobby Zamora, in Johnson’s absence.
