Silvestre could face Fulham
New Arsenal signing Mikael Silvestre could figure in the Gunners trip to Fulham on Saturday (August 23rd).
The French defender comes to the Emirates for an undisclosed fee after making 361 appearances for United since joining from Inter Milan in 1999.
Now the versatile 31-year-old is in line for a start at Craven Cottage, with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger able to deploy him alongside France team-mate William Gallas in the centre of defence.
Explaining the move, Wenger said: “We have a strong squad but a young squad and Mikael’s versatility, experience and calibre will provide the extra depth we need to reinforce our challenge for honours.
“His defensive adaptability will serve us well and it’s a big plus that Mikael has top level experience and a great understanding of football in the Premier League.”
Fulham will be without Steven Davis for the weekend fixture after the midfielder finally completed a switch to Rangers with the Scottish side meeting an asking price of around £3 million.
Arsenal won the corresponding fixture 3-0 last season.
