United to make record bid for Berbatov
Manchester United have agreed a record breaking £32 million fee with Tottenham that will see Bulgarian centre forward Dimitar Berbatov bolster the champions’ attack.
United have been searching for a centre forward and will hope Berbatov can lead their attack to another Premier League title, the Daily Mirror reports.
Spurs were reportedly angry over rumours suggesting he was on the verge of a move to Old Trafford but chairman Daniel Levy is expected to accept a formal offer for Berbatov, if United are willing to part with a record transfer fee.
Since joining the club in 2006, Berbatov has netted 23 goals in each of his two seasons with Juande Ramos’ side.
The transfer would almost certainly see Berbatov lead the line in the absence of the injured Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney but it could leave Spurs in desperate need of fire power.
Having sold Robbie Keane to Liverpool and Jermain Defoe to Portsmouth, Spurs will be left with Darren Bent and new signings Giovani dos Santos and Luka Modric to supply much needed goals.
