Lampard to stay at Chelsea
Chelsea will be looking forward to five more years with Frank Lampard in the centre of their midfield after the England international signed a new deal at the club.
Lampard had been linked with a move to Inter Milan where he would have joined up with former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho but he opted to stay at Stamford Bridge after the club agreed to offer him a long-term deal.
“I see it as my final big contract and I will play out my days at Chelsea,” he said.
“I want to finish my career at Chelsea,” he explained.
He revealed that it has been a difficult summer but was looking forward to concentrating on football.
Lampard lost his mother to pneumonia towards the end of last season and the situation meant contract negotiations had broken down.
“My world got turned upside down and I don’t think it is anything anyone appreciates until you go through it.
“The club gave me time and appreciate that,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chelsea could add another attacking player to their squad in the coming weeks as their pursuit of Real Madrid’s Robinho continues.
Despite the Spanish giants claiming he will stay, Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon said negotiations were continuing.
