Laursen: We must take Iceland match seriously
With the UEFA Cup firmly in his sights, Martin Laursen has issued a warning to his team to not become complacent and assume victory.
Aston Villa are travelling to Iceland to face FH Hafnarfjardar this Thursday (August 14th), and although claiming that the opposition is not in the same league as his team, Laursen cautiously remarked on the club website: “On a bad day for us, if we are not concentrating, then we can lose.
“So we must be careful and take this game seriously. We took Odense seriously in the Intertoto Cup and that is how we should always be.”
Villa may be feeling confident of the win after completing their seventh signing of the summer.
Carlos Cuellar’s transfer from Rangers on a four-year £7.8 million deal will see him line-up with other key signings, like England international Luke Young, in Martin O’Neill’s much improved 2008/09 squad.
Meanwhile, AFP reports that Manchester City may be distracted from training for their Thursday match with Danish team FC Midtjylland by controversy surrounding owner Thaksin Shinawatra.
However, it adds that FC Midtjylland could be a force to be reckoned with after taking ten points from the first four games of the new season, sending them to the top of the Danish Superligaen.
