City make £18 million addition to squad
Mark Hughes’ Manchester City have taken the first steps towards building a side capable of challenging in this season’s Premier League.
It is hoped the £18 million signing of Brazilian striker Jo from CSKA Moscow will help improve on last term’s campaign, which saw City slide into mid-table mediocrity after a promising start.
The 21-year-old - who is boss Hughes’ first signing since taking the reins at Eastlands - is advised by Kia Jorabbchian, the man whose agency is a third-party owner of Manchester United’s Carlos Tevez.
However, CSKA have reassured that no such contract is in place with Jo: “This is not, however, a third-party ownership. It’s an arrangement between two clubs and is no different from any other deals that contain such clauses.”
Jo, who has won a single cap for Brazil, will now link up with countryman Elano at Eastlands, with a possible move for Barcelona star Ronaldinho possibly in the pipeline
