Hiddink looks for reversal in semi-final
Russia coach Guus Hiddink is looking for a reversal of his team’s opening match of this summer’s European Championships in tonight’s (Thursday, June 26th) semi-final against Spain.
The Russians went down 4-1 to Spain in a Group D contest, their defence carved open by tricky Valencia frontman David Villa, who scored a hat-trick in the game.
Now Hiddink, who guided South Korea to the semi-finals of the 2002 World Cup, is expecting a much more assured display if Russia are to progress to the Vienna final and meet Germany.
He told Goal.com: “If this match is not different, we will be in trouble.
Continuing: “Spain did the best possible thing, the nine points in the group phase, they are a done team, with a lot of experience, while we started playing well after the defeat to Spain and we hope that we will be better this time now.”
Meanwhile, playmaker Andrei Arshavin could be Barcelona-bound with Zenit St Petersburg reportedly listening to offers for the 24-year-old Russian captain.
